NASDAQ (National Association of Securities Dealers Automated Quotation) is a computerized network where brokers and dealers can get price quotations and exchange stocks.
NASDAQ provides price quotations on over 5,000 over-the-counter stocks. All trading on the NASDAQ exchange is done on computers and telephones. NASDAQ was created in the early 1970s when brokers began trading stocks over the telephone; it was then later linked by computer. NASDAQ has grown to be the largest electronic equities exchange in the United States.
